Overview

Our team is passionate about outreach to the community. We have participated in and organized several different events, including our STEM night, company tours, and participating in other organizations’ STEM nights. Below is a little more information about each.

s’mores and stem

Beginning in the summer of 2023, our team organized our very own STEM night, called “S’mores and STEM”. We created a family-friendly event to get kids excited and involved in robotics. We had several stations set up, including Hardware, Software, Robot Driving, All About FIRST, and even a Women in STEM station. We also had s’mores, and a bake sale/donation jar to help us fundraise for our team. Stay tuned to our Instagram to learn about future S’mores and STEM events!

company tours

To familiarize ourselves with the applications of robotics in real life, we like to tour STEM companies. This is sometimes companies who sponsor us, and sometimes companies that we are interested in. In the past, we have toured Great River Energy, Boston Scientific, HDR, TRANE Technologies, and Success Engineering. We also take tours as an opportunity to share about our team and FIRST, if it makes sense for that company.

community stem nights

Along with our own STEM night, S’mores and STEM, we participate in other organization’s STEM nights. Basswood Elementary’s Math and Science Night is one we have been going to since our first year. We set up a booth with information about our team, and an obstacle course for kids to learn about driving the robot. We’ve also been to Woodland Elementary’s STEM Night, which was an absolute blast.
